We are delighted to announce the launch of the Level 4 Certificate in Capable Environments, a brand-new qualification developed and delivered by the Supporting Positively team.

Awarded through the Quality Licence Scheme and certificated by Skills and Education Group, this innovative programme has been designed for professionals who want to create meaningful, sustainable change within services rather than simply learn about it.
Our first cohort will begin in September, and we are incredibly excited to support learners on what we believe is a unique journey of service improvement, leadership and organisational development.

Why We Created This Qualification
Over the years, we have worked with services across health, social care and education to improve quality of life, reduce restrictive practices, strengthen staff wellbeing and create more positive support cultures.
One thing has become increasingly clear: lasting change does not happen through training alone.
It happens when organisations take a structured approach to improving the environments in which people live, learn and receive support.
The Capable Environments framework provides that structure. It helps services move beyond compliance and focus on creating conditions where people can genuinely thrive.
This qualification was developed to help leaders and practitioners embed those principles in a practical, measurable and sustainable way.

A Qualification Built Around Real Service Improvement
The Level 4 Certificate in Capable Environments is a 12-month programme focused on service-wide change.
Learners explore one Capable Environments domain each month through a combination of online workshops and e-learning. Rather than completing theoretical assignments, participants apply their learning directly within their own service.
Each month, learners will:
- Assess their current position using baseline measures.
- Identify strengths and opportunities for development.
- Develop and implement action plans.
- Measure progress and impact.
- Gather evidence demonstrating improvements in practice.
This process enables learners to build a portfolio of evidence that reflects genuine organisational change rather than hypothetical scenarios.
By the end of the programme, participants will have created a comprehensive record of how they have embedded Capable Environments principles within their own setting.

The Twelve Domains of Capable Environments
Throughout the programme, learners will explore:
- Physical Health
- Physical Environment
- Communication
- Positive Social Interaction
- Meaningful Activity
- Consistent and Predictable Environments
- Encouragement of Independent Functioning
- Choice and Control
- Relationships
- Effective Organisational Context
- Mindful and Skilled Workers
- Effective Management and Support
Together, these domains provide a comprehensive framework for creating environments that promote wellbeing, participation, independence and quality of life.

Who Is This Programme For?
The qualification is particularly suited to:
- Registered Managers
- Positive Behaviour Support Leads
- Quality and Improvement Leads
- Senior Support Workers
- Team Leaders and Service Managers
- Professionals responsible for driving service development and culture change
Whether you are looking to improve outcomes within a single service or influence practice across a wider organisation, the programme provides a structured pathway for achieving meaningful change.
Investing in Sustainable Change
The programme is delivered over 12 months and costs £1,800 + VAT per learner.
Throughout the year, participants will receive access to monthly online workshops, e-learning resources and practical tools designed to support implementation within their own services.
Most importantly, learners leave with more than a certificate. They leave with evidence of tangible improvements that have benefited the people they support, their teams and their organisation.
